CHAPTER THREE

With a thundering sound, the heavy stone lid breaks into sharp pieces as the mummified corpse inside sits upright.

"This is so not happening" I hear Sam muttering to herself even as she grips the loose sand beneath us in fear. The heavy smell of myrrh mixed with balsam, undoubtedly used on the mummy as a preservative, spreads across the chamber. This jolts Sam out of her delusion.

Its odd shaped head turns towards us and lets out a blood curdling howl .It climbs out and starts removing the wraps of linen around itself, starting with its head.

"This is it. We have awakened Anubis himself." Sam screams by my side even as the flaring ears are revealed.

The blood red eyes stare at us as its hands get busy removing the linen struck around its long snout.

This is too much to take in.

We are doomed .Stuck in burial chamber deep in the bowels of the most massive structure of the ancient world .With a stinking mummy for company.

I look upwards as the dome starts spinning furiously and I feel all woozy .I look towards Sam for reassurance straining to see with droopy eyes and my head dives straight into the sand .The mute image of Sam screaming her lungs out with hands on her ears is forever imprinted in my mind.
